My feet have been hurting me for weeks and so today I finally went to the foot doctor. As I suspected, through self-diagnosis via the internet, I have plantar fasciitis. It has gotten so bad that this week, that by the end of the work day, I’ve been limping.
Evidently, the only “cure” for this thing is to do these “heel drop” exercises three times a day in order to stretch the achilles tendon. For 4 months. Well, he said I might get 50% better after 2 months. Not really the quick fix I was hoping for, but I’ll do the exercises and hope for the best.
The good news is that walking will not make things worse ( I was afraid I was doing this.) I was also worried that I’d brought this all on by standing long periods on hard floors (industrial tile over concrete) in my studio and at the library. But the doctor says no, this is not really a factor. It is all about the Achilles tendon being too tight. I have bought several anti-fatigue mats for the studio, which I’ll still be keeping around, though.
